Eric Seedorff was raised in a mining family and earned degrees from the University of California at Davis (BS 1977) and Stanford University (MS 1981; PhD 1987). Eric has worked on Cu, Mo, and Au systems in the American Cordillera amongst mines and normal faults, living in the shadows of two metamorphic core complexes.

After summer and thesis-related jobs with Noranda, Anaconda, and Climax, he was an exploration geologist for Chevron and WestGold in Reno. Eric then moved to Ely, Nevada, where he was Chief Mine Geologist at Robinson for Magma Copper Company. After being transferred to Tucson, he became Chief Geologist of Magma and then VP Mineral Resources for BHP Copper. Eric chose to leave BHP in 1999, after which he and two partners operated a failed entrepreneurial venture to build a new producing copper company from scratch. Eric has held the Lowell Chair in Economic Geology at the University of Arizona since 2002. His research interests include porphyry deposits, hydrothermal alteration-mineralization processes, extensional tectonics, and organizational culture. Eric is past President of both GSN and the Arizona Geological Society and has been active in SEG.
