THE GSN 2022 SYMPOSIUM IS NOW IN THE RECORD BOOKS!  It was successfully held in-person on May 2-5, 2022 at the Nugget Resort in Sparks, Nevada.

Thank you to all of the Students who volunteered their time to help make the Symposium a success!

Student Research Session

An oral session showcasing graduate student research is planned for Monday, May 2nd. GSN received more than 40 abstracts and in 2020, published 13 papers focused on student research. The Student Research session provides a less-formal forum in which students can present their research on regional geology and ore deposits to a focused group of practicing geoscientists knowledgeable of and working in the Basin and Range region. Students will be able to present their research followed by a period for questions and answers.

In addition to the Student Research session, many abstracts and papers by students will be presented in both oral and poster theme sessions.

A primary mission of GSN is to support students in many ways through yearly scholarships awarded by GSN and chapters, field trip support, and discounted or free dinners at monthly meetings.

The GSN Symposium also strives to support students in various ways. Student technical contributions to the symposium will automatically be entered for consideration for best papers, best posters, and best presentations. Students who received best paper awards in 2020 are not eligible for best paper awards in 2022. However, all student contributions are eligible for poster and presentation awards. It’s not too late for you to submit your abstract to showcase your research! Contact Mike Ressel ( for more information.
